“My name is Jon and I have been a chef for over 17 years. I’ve worked in various different restaurants across London and Europe, I have taught in a cookery school and I am currently the Innovation and development chef for Marks & Spencer.
My wife and I first came to 80-84 Market Place when it opened as The Retailery, although to be honest, growing up locally meant my first visit would have been about 15 years ago – back when it was a club called Pacific Edge and was a far cry from the now sophisticated Heart & Soul. I could probably say the same about myself…
As soon as we heard about the petition to re-open it we signed it – Afterall this was exactly the kind of place we often said we wished the local area had more of. Luckily we weren’t the only ones who felt this way and seeing Heart and Soul growing their customer base over the last months has been very exciting.
Almost everything there was perfect, only one thing was missing – a breakfast offer. One afternoon whilst in H&S I started a conversation with Steve Kitchen, whose enthusiasm for the place got me fired up and that is how the idea that is now Burnt Toast @Heart&Soul started. Myself and my wife Egle couldn’t be more excited about this project that will allow us to bring modern and delicious breakfast and Brunch options to the local community.
Burnt Toast will use local artisan suppliers so that our menu uses the best ingredients, locally sourced and cooked perfectly. We wanted to create a menu that highlights these amazing ingredients, has a playful nod to the other traders in Heart and Soul and offers the Romford food scene something a little bit different.”
